Mitosis: Advanced Look --> 2.) Cytokinesis

Once mitosis is complete, the cell is divided into two new daughter cells during cytokinesis. Clicking on each of the thumbnail images will bring up a larger, labeled version of the described scene.

Finally, cytokinesis divides the rest of the cell into two new cells. This occurs when a ring made up of actin proteins contracts to pinch the cell into two cells.

The product of mitosis and cytokinesis is two daughter cells that are identical. Each cell will now enter the first growth stage of interphase (G1), the next step in the cell cycle.
